CHILDCARE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 

 

meeting held on April 27, 2017, commencing at 1:34 PM, in Committee Room #3, Second Floor, London City Hall. 

 

PRESENT:  D. Gordon (Chair), S. Carter, B. Jackson, J. Keens, S. McKee, J. Rinker and C. Wagg and J. Martin (Committee Secretary).

 

ABSENT:  T. Blaney, N. Elhayek and A. Ryan.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  L. Cross, K. Koltun and A. Rae.

 

 

I.

CALL TO ORDER

 

1.

Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest

 

That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

SCHEDULED ITEMS

 

2.

Diverse Voices for Change Initiative

 

That it BE NOTED that the Childcare Advisory Committee (CCAC) received the Federation of Canadian Municipalities – Diverse Voices for Change Initiative survey; it being noted that the CCAC heard a presentation from K. Koltun, Government and External Relations Officer, with respect to this matter.

CONSENT ITEMS

 

3.

1st Report of the Childcare Advisory Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the 1st Report of the Child Care Advisory Committee, from its meeting held on January 26, 2017, was received.

 

4.

City of London Childcare Update

 

That it BE NOTED that the attached Childcare Subsidy application and placement statistics and childcare vacancy statistics from A. Rae, Manager, City of London, were received.

 

5.

Thames Valley District School Board Update

 

That it BE NOTED that no update was received with respect to an update from the Thames Valley District School Board as the representative was not in attendance.

 

6.

Licensed Child Care Network Update

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from J. Keens with respect to the Licensed Child Care Network, was received

 

7.

Services for Special Needs Update

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from L. Cross with respect to the services for children with special needs in licensed child care, was received; it being noted that a discussion was held with respect to possible next steps to improve services for children with respect to this matter.

SUB-COMMITTEES & WORKING GROUPS

 

8.

Child Care Advisory Committee Work Plan Sub-Committee

 

That the attached 2017 Child Care Advisory Committee Work Plan and 2016 Child Care Summary Work Plan BE FORWARDED to Municipal Council for consideration.

 

9.

Adopt a Councillor Sub-Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the Child Care Advisory Committee held a general discussion with respect to the Adopt a Councillor/Trustee initiative.

 

V.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

 

10.

Draft Child Care Policy

 

That it BE NOTED that the Childcare Advisory Committee (CCAC) approved a date of June 6, 2017 to meet with the Civic Administration to review and provide feedback with respect to the Draft Child Care Policy; it being noted that the CCAC received a verbal update from A. Rae, Manager, Children’s Services, with respect to this matter.

Child Minding RFP Update

 

That it BE NOTED that the Childcare Advisory Committee received a verbal update from A. Rae, Manager, Children’s Services with respect to the Child Minding RFP: it being noted that no submissions were received and the Civic Administration is actively moving forward with next steps.

 

12.

Advisory Committee Appreciation Reception - May 4th, 2017

 

That it BE NOTED that the Childcare Advisory Committee were reminded to RSVP to the Advisory Committee Appreciation Reception being held on May 4, 2017 at 7:00 pm, 12 floor, City Hall.

 

13.

Child and Youth Network Presentation

 

That it BE NOTED that the Childcare Advisory Committee were advised that the Child and Youth Network presentation will be held at the Community and Protective Services Committee on May 24, 2017.

DEFERRED MATTERS/ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

 

14.

Next Child Care Advisory Committee Meetings

 

That it BE NOTED that the Childcare Advisory Committee set the dates of June 6, 2017 and October 3, 2017 for the next CCAC meetings.
