meeting held on September 7, 2017, commencing at 5:15 PM, in Committee Room #4, Second Floor, London City Hall.

CALL TO ORDER

Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest

 

              That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

2.

7th Report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee

 

              That it BE NOTED that the 7th Report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, from its meeting held on August 3, 2017, was received. 

 

3.

Resilient Cities Conference - November 17 &18, 2017

 

              That it BE NOTED that a communication dated August 23, 2017, from the Advisory Committee on the Environment, with respect to the Resilient Cities Conference to be held November 17 and 18, 2017, was received; it being noted that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) will not be providing a financial contribution for the conference given animal welfare issues are not part of the current resilient conference however, the AWAC would welcome any future opportunities to contribute to animal welfare issues related to climate change.

SUB-COMMITTEES & WORKING GROUPS

 

4.

Animal Welfare Advisory Committee Working Group

 

              That the Managing Director, Development and Compliance Services and Chief Building Official, BE REQUESTED to bring forward to the Community and Protective Services Committee (CPSC), an amendment to the Animal Control By-law PH-3 by deleting section 3.6 “Public park-zoo-fair-exhibition-circus-licensed” in its entirety; it being noted that the AWAC received the attached backgrounder with respect to this matter.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

 

5.

Permitted Animals for Sale in Pet Stores

 

              That the Managing Director, Development and Compliance Services and Chief Building Official, BE ADVISED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) supports and endorses the attached communication with respect to the recommendations for the Business Licensing By-law list of Permitted Animals for Sale in Pet Stores, with the removal of the reference to bees (under Invertebrates) as this removal aligns with the Urban Agriculture Strategy position with respect to bees.

 

 

 

6.

Urban Agriculture Strategy Update - W. Brown

 

              That it BE NOTED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee received a verbal update from W. Brown and P. Lystar on behalf of the Urban Agriculture Strategy Joint Advisory Committee and held a general discussion with respect to the recommendations from the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee regarding the Draft London Urban Agriculture Strategy, as it relates to animal welfare.

DEFERRED MATTERS/ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

 

7.        (Added) Letter of Resignation – V. Lightfoot

 

              That it BE NOTED that a communication, dated September 6, 2017, from V. Lightfoot, with respect to her resignation from the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, was received.
