ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
meeting held on September
22, 2016, commencing at 12:19 PM, in Committee Room #3, Second Floor, London
City Hall.
PRESENT: L. Norman (Chair), M. Abbott, P.
Arcese, J. Bennett, I. Bielaska-Hornblower, M. Sherritt and L. Steel and H.
Lysynski (Secretary).
ABSENT: S. Davis, B. Hall, B. Rankin and B.
Spearman.
ALSO PRESENT: R. Brittan, N.
Collister, E. van Kesteren and J. Walter.
That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary
interests were disclosed.

That it BE NOTED that the 4th Report of the
Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee Report from its
meeting held on June 23, 2016, was amended to include L. Steel in attendance.

That the Community Safety and Crime
Prevention Advisory Committee (CSCP) BE ADVISED as to why the recent request
for the Chair to write letters was declined; it being noted that the CSCP has
asked its Chair to write letters to organizations in the past and it has
always been supported by the Community and Protective Services Committee.
|
That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council
resolution adopted at its meeting held on July 26, 2016, with respect to the
Draft School Zone Speed Limit Policy, was received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the Community Safety
and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee heard a verbal presentation from P.
Arcese, with respect to Neighbourhood Watch London (NWL); it being noted that
NWL has a new Executive Director, Michelle Sands.
|
That the update from Block Parent® London
BE POSTPONED to the next meeting of the Community Safety and Crime Prevention
Advisory Committee; it being noted that
the Block
Parent® London
representative was unable to attend the meeting.
|
That the Civic Administration BE ADVISED of
the following with respect to provision of child minding services for the
public at public participation meetings, related to a Standing Committee meeting:
a)
there
will be more opportunities for individuals to participate in Advisory
Committees if child minding is provided; and,
b)
there
is currently a Voting Member on the Community Safety and Crime Prevention
Advisory Committee who would benefit from the provision of child minding.

That it BE NOTED that a communication from
the City Clerk, dated July 11, 2016, with respect to the 2017 Mayor’s New
Year’s Honour List, was received; it being noted that the members of the
Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee are encouraged to
submit nominations to its Committee Secretary at the next meeting.

That the Civic Administration BE REQUESTED
to advise the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee of the
following, with respect to Advisory Committees:
a)
the
process and the roles for Council, Advisory Committees and the Civic
Administration in dealing with questions, comments and concerns from the
public having to do with Advisory Committee-related matters;
b)
a
request for more detailed information to be included on the Advisory
Committee Reports (such as detailed accounts of discussions and/or
presentations); and,
c)
a
request that the meetings be posted on Twitter and Facebook;
d)
a
discussion of an increased Advisory Committee presence on the City of London
website be postponed to its next meeting.

That consideration of the 2016 Community
Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee Work Plan BE POSTPONED to its
next meeting.
|

(ADDED) Active and Safe Routes to School
Update
|
That the following actions be taken with
respect to the verbal update from E. van Kesteren, relating to an update on
the Active and Safe Routes to School initiative:
a)
a
made in London video for safely crossing the street https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=6gMuXjcrwaI BE
FORWARDED to the Municipal Council for its information; and,
b)
it
BE NOTED that October 5, 2016 is International Walk to School Day.

(ADDED) London Safety Audit
|
That the Community Safety and Crime
Prevention Advisory Committee (CSCP) reviewed and received the attached
communication and heard a verbal update from L. Norman and J. Walter, Manager
I, Community Development, with respect to the London Safety Audit; it being
noted that the results of the Audit will be provided to the CSCP once they
are compiled.

(ADDED) London Community Grants Program
|
That the Community Safety and Crime
Prevention Advisory Committee heard a verbal update from J. Walter, Manager I,
Community Development, with respect to the London Community Grants Program.
|
14.
|
(ADDED) “Kids Need A Boost” Program
|
That the 2016 Community Safety and Crime
Prevention Advisory Committee was advised by M. Abbott that the “Kids Need a
Boost” Program has been discontinued.
|
