TREES AND FORESTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 

meeting held on January 4, 2017, commencing at 12:15 PM, in Committee Room #4, Second Floor, London City Hall. 

 

PRESENT:  R. Mannella (Chair), A. Cantell, T. Khan, J. Kogelheide, C. Linton, G. Mitchell and D. Pavletic; and J. Martin (Secretary).

 

ABSENT:  P. Ciufo, C. Haindle and N. St. Amour.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  A. Macpherson, S. Rowland and B. Williamson.

CALL TO ORDER

That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

Election of Chair and Vice Chair for the term ending November 2017

 

That it BE NOTED that the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee elected R. Mannella and A. Cantell as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively, for the term ending November 30, 2017.

11th Report of the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the 11th Report of the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee, from its meeting held on November 23, 2016, was received.

 

4.

Draft Ecological Restoration Plan for Westminster Ponds/Pond Mills ESA Saunders Cabin Area by St. Williams Nursery and Ecology Centre - September 2016 - Staff Response to Comments of the TFAC

 

That it BE NOTED that the communication dated November 29, 2016, from Environmental and Parks Planning, with respect to the City’s responses to the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee’s comments on the draft Ecological Restoration Plan for Westminster Ponds/Pond Mills ESA Saunders Cabin Area by St. Williams Nursery and Ecology Centre, was received.

Allergens Climate Change and Invasives Working Group

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from A. Cantel, on behalf of the Allergens Climate Change and Invasives Working Group, was received.

1995 Dingman Creek Objectives

 

That it BE NOTED that no update was received.

 


 

VI.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

 

7.

Tree Planting Strategy

 

That the following actions be taken with respect to the Tree Planting Strategy:

 

a)    the Civic Administration BE REQUESTED to provide the Draft Tree Planting Strategy to the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee (TFAC) to allow the TFAC to provide input prior to completion and submission of the Strategy to Council; and,

 

b)    the Civic Administration BE REQUESTED to provide a presentation to the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee with respect to the Woodland Acquisition Fund;

 

it being noted that the TFAC received a communication from S. Rowland, Urban Forestry Planner, with respect to this matter.

 

8.

Tree Protection By-law Update

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from A. Macpherson, Manager, Environmental and Parks Planning, with respect to the Tree Protection By-law, was received.

DEFERRED MATTERS/ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

 

9.

2017 Trees and Forests Advisory Committee Work Plan

 

That it BE NOTED that discussion with respect to the 2017 Trees and Forests Advisory Committee Work Plan was deferred to the next meeting of the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee.
