TOWN AND GOWN COMMITTEE

 

meeting held on September 14, 2016, commencing at 1:04 PM, in Committee Room #3, Second Floor, London City Hall. 

 

PRESENT:   Councillor P. Squire (Acting Chair) and Councillor M. Salih; J. Cleary, C. Forsythe, T. Frost, J. Henry, T. Hinan, J-M. Metrailler and P. White and H. Lysynski (Secretary).

 

ABSENT:  Councillors T. Park and J. Zaifman; P. Beechey and P. Masse.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  H. Chapman, W. Cowdry, W. Knelsen, G. Matthews and E. Sims.

CALL TO ORDER

Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest

 

That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

SCHEDULED ITEMS

 

2.

Reunion Weekend on Sept. 29 and 30, 2016 and Homecoming in October

 

That the following actions be taken with respect to the Western University Reunion Weekend (September 29 and 30, 2016) and Homecoming (October, 2016):

 

a)            the Civic Administration BE REQUESTED to report back at the next meeting of the Town and Gown Committee with respect to outstanding fines, advising if the City is at a loss and fine recovery; and,

 

b)            it BE NOTED that the attached presentation from G. Cunningham, Director, External Engagement, Alumni Relations & Development and J. Cleary, University Student Council President, with respect to these matters, was received.

3.

2nd Report of the Town and Gown Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the 2nd Report of the Town and Gown Committee from its meeting held on May 4, 2016, was received.

 

4.

Municipal Council Resolution - 2nd Report of the Town and Gown Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council resolution adopted at its meeting held on May 31, 2016, with respect to the actions taken relating to the 2nd Report of the Town and Gown Committee, was received.

5.

Review of Western's Code of Student Conduct

 

That it BE NOTED that the communication dated June 22, 2016, from I. Scott, Dean, Faculty of Law, with respect to the review of Western’s Student Code of Conduct, was received.

DEFERRED MATTERS/ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

 

6.

Secondary Dwelling Units Update

 

That it BE NOTED that the Town and Gown Committee held a general discussion with respect to secondary dwelling units.

 

7.

Project Learn Update

 

That it BE NOTED that the Town and Gown Committee held a general discussion with respect to Project Learn.

 

8.

Noise By-law Enforcement Update

 

That it BE NOTED that the Town and Gown Committee held a general discussion with respect to the additional By-law Enforcement Officers hired to assist with enforcing noise complaints.
