COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT
meeting held on January
6, 2016, commencing at 12:15 PM, in Committee Room #4, Second Floor, London
City Hall.
PRESENT: M. Bloxam (Chair), K. Birchall, S.
Brooks, S. Hall, M. Hodge, J. Howell, C. Kushnir, L. Langdon, S. Ratz, B.
Schulz and D. Szoller and B. Mercier (Secretary).
ABSENT: S. Armstrong, J. Baxter, B. Branfireun and
G. Sass.
ALSO PRESENT: G. Barrett, B. Orr
and T. Van Rossum.
That
it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

That it BE NOTED that an update from
B. Orr, Sewer Outreach and Control Inspector, with respect to the "Toilets
are Not Garbage Cans" and "Your Turn" Programs, was received.

That it BE NOTED that the 1st Report
of the Advisory Committee on the Environment from its meeting held on
December 2, 2015, was received.

That it BE NOTED that the 1st Report
of the Transportation Advisory Committee from its meeting held on December 1,
2015, was received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the 8th Report
of the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee from its meeting held on November
25, 2015, was received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the Advisory
Committee on the Environment held a general discussion with respect to its
2016 Budget allocation and impending expenditures.
|
That it BE NOTED that a presentation
from the Education and Outreach Sub-committee, with respect to the City’s
profile on Facebook, Twitter and the City e-newsletter, was received; it
being noted that the Advisory Committee on the Environment viewed a mini tour
of the various City of London social media sites.

That the matter of an urban agriculture
convergence BE REFERRED to the Food Sub-Committee for further
discussion, with a report back at a future meeting of the Advisory Committee
on the Environment.

That it BE NOTED that an update from
D. Szoller, with respect to her attendance at the Canadian Climate Symposium
2015 held in Ottawa, Ontario on November 12 to 13, 2015, was received.

That the attached communication from
K. Birchall, with respect to outdoor lighting ordinances, BE REFERRED
to a Working Group of the Advisory Committee on the Environment (ACE), in
consultation with the Environmental and Ecological Planning Advisory
Committee (EEPAC), the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) and City
Staff, to draft a dark sky policy for Council’s consideration; it being noted
that the ACE received a communication from C. Kushnir, with respect to this
matter.
