meeting held on June 2, 2016, commencing at 5:05 PM, in Committee Room #3, Second Floor, London City Hall. 

 

PRESENT:     W. Brown (Chair), K. Ashe, M. Gelinas, V. Lightfoot, M. Puzanov, D. Simpson, J. Sukhdeo and M. Toplack and J. Martin (Secretary). 

 

ABSENT:  K. MacIntosh, P. Newbould and F. Sekerciouglu.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  S. Stafford.

CALL TO ORDER

Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest

 

That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

SCHEDULED ITEMS

 

2.

Canada Geese in Springbank Park

 

That it BE NOTED that the Wildlife Sub-committee will work in conjunction with the Civic Administration to develop a strategy to address concerns with Canada Geese in Springbank Park and further that the development of the above-noted strategy BE ADDED to the 2016 AWAC work plan; it being noted that a verbal presentation from S. Stafford, Division Manager, Parks and Community Sports with respect to this matter, was received.

That it BE NOTED that the 6th Report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, from its meeting held on May 5, 2016, was received.

Municipal Council Resolution - 5th Report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council resolution adopted at its meeting held May 3, 2016, with respect to the 5th Report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, was received.

 

5.

Municipal Council Resolution - 5th Report of the Environmental and Ecological Planning Advisory Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council resolution adopted at its meeting held May 19, 2016, with respect to the 5th Report of the Environmental and Ecological Planning Advisory Committee, was received.

 

6.

Notice of Public Participation Meeting and Public Open House for the London Plan

 

That it BE NOTED that a Notice dated May 4, 2016, from J. Adema, Planner, with respect to a Public Participation Meeting and Public Open House for the London Plan was received.

 

7.

Defining and Applying Diversity: "Gender Lens"

 

That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council resolution from its session held on May 3, 2016, with respect to “Defining and Applying Diversity: ‘Gender Lens’", and the related communication dated April 26, 2016, from N. Garrison, Western University, were received.

 

8.

Education/Outreach Joint Discussion of Advisory Committees

 

That it BE NOTED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee appointed M. Gelinas and W. Brown as their representatives at the education/outreach joint discussion of advisory committees; it being noted that a communication dated April 25, 2016 from S. Ratz Advisory Committee on the Environment and A. Stratton, Transportation Advisory Committee, was received with respect to this matter.

Wild-life Sub-Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) received a verbal update from W. Brown, on behalf of the AWAC Wildlife Sub-Committee.

V.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

 

11.

Springbank Dam

 

That the Civic Administration BE REQUESTED to include the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) in all communications with respect to the Springbank Dam in order for the AWAC to prepare and provide input related to animal welfare and urban wildlife, and that this matter BE ADDED to the 2016 AWAC work plan for approval.

DEFERRED MATTERS/ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

 

12.

(ADDED)  Feeding Wildlife Concern

 

That it BE NOTED that the Wildlife Sub-committee will work in conjunction with the Civic Administration in the development of a strategy, policy and/or by-law to address the feeding of wildlife and that this matter BE ADDED to the 2016 Animal Welfare Advisory Committee work plan; it being noted that a communication dated May 6, 2016, from S. Coppins with respect to this matter, was received.

 

13.

(ADDED)  2016 Animal Welfare Advisory Committee Work Plan

 

That the attached revised 2016 Work Plan for the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee BE FORWARDED to the Municipal Council for consideration; it being noted that this revised plan includes the initiatives noted in clauses 2, 11 and 12.
