Acknowledgement of Indigenous Lands

 

That it BE NOTED that the meeting was opened with an Acknowledgement of Indigenous Lands by S. Lewkowitz.

Traditional Opening

 

That it BE NOTED that Imam Abd Alfatah Twakkal shared a teaching from the Muslim faith and blessed the efforts of London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee.

4.

Policy and Planning Sub-Committee

 

That the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee (LDRRAC) Education and Awareness Sub-committee BE DIRECTED to establish new branding suggestions for the LDRRAC in conjunction with the proposed name change, for implementation in 2017; it being noted that the minutes of the Policy and Planning Sub-Committee, from its meeting held on May 5, 2016 was received.

Awards and Recognition Sub-Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the minutes of the Awards and Recognition Sub-Committee, from its meetings held on May 2, 2016 and June 6, 2016, were received.

Education Sub-Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from Z. Hashmi, on behalf of the Education Sub-Committee, was received.

5th Report of the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the 5th Report of the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee, from its meeting held on May 19, 2016, was received.

Municipal Council resolution - Diversity, Race Relation Inclusivity Award

 

That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council resolution, from its meeting held on May 31, 2016, with respect to the Diversity, Race Relation Inclusivity Award, was received.

United Way Representative

 

That it BE NOTED that a communication dated May 18, 2016, from S. Middleton, with respect to the United Way, London Middlesex non-voting representative for the London Diversity, Race Relations Advisory Committee, was received.

Thames Valley District School Board Representative

 

That it BE NOTED that a communication from J. Hill, with respect to the Thames Valley District School Board non-voting representative for the London Diversity, Race Relations Advisory Committee, was received.

ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION

 

11.

Community and Diversity Inclusion Strategy

 

That the Civic Administration BE REQUESTED to consider the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee as the advisory body in the development of the Community and Diversity Inclusion Strategy, with the possible addition of key community members or other stakeholders; it being noted that the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee referred the matter of the Community and Diversity Inclusion Strategy to their Policy and Planning Sub-Committee and held a general discussion with respect to this matter.

Solutions Lab Diversity Table Update

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from S. Lewkowitz, with respect to the Solutions Lab Diversity Table, was received.

 

13.

Racism in London

 

That it BE NOTED that the Community Forum on Racism in London will be held Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the South London Community Centre from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm; it being noted that a verbal update from Z. Hashimi and the attached communication with respect to the this matter, was received.

Northeast Community Conversation on Racism Event

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from I. Silver and K. Hussain, with respect to the Northeast Community Conversation on Racism, was received; it being noted that the Community Forum in Racism will build on this conversation.

 

15.

Rainbow Crosswalk Update

 

That it BE NOTED that a verbal update from C. Callander, with respect to the Rainbow Crosswalk, was received.

 

16.

Summer Meeting Schedule

 

That it BE NOTED that the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee will meet July 21, 2016 at which time the committee will review the need for a meeting in August.

DEFERRED MATTERS/ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

Community Drug Strategy Update

 

That it BE NOTED that the community drug strategy update was deferred to a future meeting of the London Diversity and Race Relations Advisory Committee.

 

18.

Community Police Group Update

 

That it BE NOTED a verbal update from S. Lewkowitz with respect to the community police group, was received.
