ADVISORY
COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT
meeting held on September
7, 2016, commencing at 12:19 PM, in Committee Room #4, Second Floor, London
City Hall.
PRESENT: M. Bloxam (Chair), S. Brooks, S.

ABSENT: J. Howell and A. Tipping.

Warring.
That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests
were disclosed.

That it BE NOTED that the attached
presentation from J. Brady, Consultant, with respect to the Trans Pacific
Partnership, was received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the 8th
Report of the Advisory Committee on the Environment from its meeting held on
July 20, 2016, was received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the 8th
Report of the Environmental and Ecological Planning Advisory Committee from
its meeting held on July 21, 2016, was received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the 8th
Report of the Trees and Forests Advisory Committee from its meeting held on
August 9, 2016, was received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council
resolution adopted at its meeting held on July 26, 2016, with respect to the
appointments of R. Harvey and A. Tipping as Voting Members and C. Warring as
a Non-Voting Member of the Advisory Committee on the Environment, was
received.
|
That it BE NOTED that the Education and
Outreach Joint Meeting of Advisory Committees, from its meeting held on June
22, 2016, was received.
|
That Dr. Brennan Vogel BE INVITED to attend
the next Advisory Committee on the Environment Committee (ACE) meeting to
discuss how municipalities in Nova Scotia have implemented sustainability
plans; it being noted that the ACE received the Sustainability Working Group
Report from its meeting held on July 27, 2016.
|
That the following comments BE FORWARDED to
the Civic Administration with respect to provision of child minding services
for the public at public participation meetings related to a Standing
Committee meeting:
a)
concern
that young children may be scared being left with someone they do not know;
b)
consideration
be given to reimbursing parents for hiring care as an alternative provision;
and,
c)
noting
older children could stay in the council chamber gallery, with something to
occupy them;
it being noted that the ACE reviewed and
received the Municipal Council resolution adopted at its meeting held on
March 22, 2016, with respect to this matter.

That the Sub-Committee Report format
appended to the Advisory Committee on the Environment (ACE) Agenda BE RECOMMENDED
to be used as the format for ACE sub-committee reports.
|
That it BE NOTED that the Advisory
Committee on the Environment heard a verbal presentation from G. Sass with
respect to the upcoming Urban Agriculture Conference.
|
That the attached, revised, Sub-Committee
Membership BE INCLUDED on the next Advisory Committee on the Environment
Agenda; it being noted that all Members are encouraged to attend sub-committee
meetings.
|
That the following actions BE TAKEN with
respect to the 2016 Advisory Committee on the Environment (ACE) Work Plan:
a)
the
attached, revised, 2016 ACE Work Plan be included on the next ACE
Agenda for further consideration; and,
b)
the
matter of a potential request for an ACE representative to be appointed to
the Food Council be placed on the next Agenda.

That the updated Advisory Committee on the
Environment (ACE) Budget BE INCLUDED on the next ACE Agenda.
|

(ADDED) Pollinator Brochure
|
That D. Szoller BE REQUESTED to follow up
with the Civic Administration to determine the appropriate location for the
Pollinator brochure on the City of London website.

(ADDED) Upper Thames River Conservation
Authority Update
|
That a representative from the Upper Thames
River Conservation Authority BE REQUESTED to attend the next meeting of the
Advisory Committee on the Environment to provide updates on the following
matters:
a)
the
potential of hydro generation in the Thames River;
b)
the
contribution of pollution in the Thames River to the algae bloom in Lake
Erie; and,
c)
the
engineering requirements of West London Dyke as compared to alternative designs.

Storm/Sewage Overflows
|
That the Civic Administration BE INVITED to
the next meeting of the Advisory Committee on the Environment to provide an
update on sewer/stormwater overflows into the Thames River.
|
