ANIMAL WELFARE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

 

meeting held on December 1, 2016, commencing at 5:02 PM, in Committee Room #4, Second Floor, London City Hall. 

 

PRESENT:  J. Sukhdeo (Acting Chair), K. Ashe, H. de Hoog, M. Gelinas, V. Lightfoot, P. Lystar and E. Nicholas and J. Martin (Secretary).

 

ABSENT:  W. Brown, M. Puzanov, D. Simpson and M. Toplack.

 

ALSO PRESENT:  A. Beaton, J. MacKay, R. Oke and F. Sekerciouglu.

CALL TO ORDER

Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest

 

That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

Election of Chair and Vice Chair for the Term Ending November 30, 2017

 

That it BE NOTED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee deferred the election of the Chair and Vice Chair to the January 2017 meeting of the AWAC; it being noted that the AWAC appointed J. Sukhdeo as Acting Chair for the December meeting.

 Humane Wildlife Conflict Policy:  Forest Operations Wildlife Protocol

 

That it BE NOTED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) received a verbal update and the attached presentation from A. Beaton, Supervisor, Operations Forestry, with respect to the Humane Wildlife Conflict Policy:  Forest Operations Wildlife Protocol.

11th Report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee

 

That it BE NOTED that the 11th Report of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, from its meeting held on November 3, 2016, was received.

 

5.

Letter of Resignation - A. Parsons

 

That it BE NOTED that a communication from A. Parsons with respect to her resignation from the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, was received.

Animal Welfare Advisory Committee Working Group

 

That it BE NOTED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) received a verbal update from M. Gelinas, on behalf of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) Working Group.

7.

Animal Control By-law - Snakes

 

That it BE NOTED that the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC) received a verbal update from the Committee Secretary, on behalf of D. Broden, indicating that he was withdrawing his request for consideration to have the Animal Control By-law revised.

 

VII.

DEFERRED MATTERS/ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

 

8.

(ADDED) Amending Class 4 Animals To Be Included in By-Law Exemption For Recognized Rescue Organizations

 

That the Municipal Council BE REQUESTED to consider an amendment to the Animal Control By-law (PH-3) to include in its exemptions, eligible, recognized rescue organizations for the following:

 

a)            Class 4 animals;

 

b)            Class 5 animals;

 

c)            Class 6 animals; and,

 

d)            tortoises;

 

it being noted the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee received a communication dated November 10, 2016 from K. Ngo, with respect to this matter.
