COMMITTEE
meeting held on November
24, 2016, commencing at 12:16 PM, in Committee Room #5, Second Floor, London
City Hall.
PRESENT: L. Norman (Chair), I.

ABSENT: J. Bennett.
ALSO PRESENT: R. Britton, M.
Diaz, D. LeBold, E. van Kesteren and J. Walter.
That it BE NOTED that no pecuniary
interests were disclosed.

That the delegation from the London Transit
Commission, with respect to bus safety BE POSTPONED to a future meeting of
the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee; it being noted
that the London Transit Commission representative was unable to attend the
meeting.
|
That it BE NOTED that the 6th Report of the
Community Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee from its meeting
held on October 27, 2016, was received.

That it BE NOTED that the Municipal Council
resolution adopted at its meeting held on November 8, 2016 with respect to
the appointment of M. Diaz to the Community Safety and Crime Prevention
Advisory Committee, was received.

That it BE NOTED that the Community Safety
and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee (CSCP) heard a verbal presentation
and received the attached statistics from D. LeBold, London Fire
Services, with respect to the London Fire Services update; it being noted
that the CSCP requested age ranges for the Fire Services statistics as well
as the number of false alarms received.

That the update from Neighbourhood Watch
London BE POSTPONED to the next meeting of the Community Safety and Crime
Prevention Advisory Committee; it being noted that the Neighbourhood Watch
London representative was unable to attend the meeting.

That it BE NOTED that the 2016 Community
Safety and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee Work Plan was updated to
remove London Block Parents® references and revise one date to 2017.
|
That a Working Group BE ESTABLISHED to
organize Community Safety Week; it being noted that L. Steel is the Chair of the
Working Group; it being further noted that the Community Safety Week will be
held during the week of National Safety Week, April 30 to May 6, 2017.

(ADDED) Walking School Bus
|
That it BE NOTED that the Community Safety
and Crime Prevention Advisory Committee held a general discussion with
respect to the Walking School Bus; it being noted that members are encouraged
to submit ideas to keep the program viable.

(ADDED) Pedestrian Safety – Western Road
and Sarnia Road Intersection
|
That the Civic Administration BE REQUSTED
to report back to a future meeting of the Community Safety and Crime
Prevention Advisory Committee (CSCP) with respect to the following matters
related to the Environmental Assessment being undertaken at the intersection
of Western Road and Sarnia Road/Philip Aziz Avenue:
a)
the
reason for the discrepancy between the traffic signals and the pedestrian
signal;
b)
the
potential implications of bus rapid transit and any potential impact on pedestrian
safety;
c)
the
status of the Environmental Assessment;
d)
an
update with respect to the preferred option of a tunnel or a pedestrian
overpass; it being noted that the CSCP prefers a pedestrian overpass; and,
e)
requesting
that the preferred option be wheelchair accessible.

(ADDED) London Police Services Information
|
That the Community Safety and Crime
Prevention Advisory Committee (CSCP) requested that a representative from the
London Police Services BE REQUESTED to attend a future CSCP meeting for the
following reasons:
a)
to
provide information about street checks; it being noted that the CSCP has
safety concerns related to its understanding of the program;
b)
to
provide an update related to the enforcement of the reduced speed limits in school
zones; and,
c)
to
provide the statistics that the London Police Services previously provided to
the CSCP.
