The City of London is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabek (AUh-nish-in-ah-bek), Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-no-show-nee), Lūnaapéewak (Len-ah-pay-wuk) and Attawandaron (Add-a-won-da-run).
We honour and respect the history, languages and culture of the diverse Indigenous people who call this territory home. The City of London is currently home to many First Nations, Métis and Inuit today.
As representatives of the people of the City of London, we are grateful to have the opportunity to work and live in this territory.

    The meeting is called to order at 5:22 PM; it being noted that the 8th Special Council Meeting was held at the Oneida Community Centre, 2017 Ball Park Rd, Oneida Nation of the Thames

     

That is BE NOTED that no pecuniary interests were disclosed.

Mayor J. Morgan presented a white pine sapling which represents peace and a traditional gift of tobacco. Chief T. Cornelius presented a woven Haudenosaunee Wampum Belt which represents a historic peace agreement between four First Nations.

At 6:15 PM, Councillor S. Lehman leaves the meeting.

At 6:30 PM, Councillor A. Hopkins leaves the meeting.

    That with respect to facilitation of meetings between First Nations and Municipalities, the following actions be taken:

    a) the Mayor BE REQUESTED to write a letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, proposing changes to the Municipal Act, 2001, to better facilitate meetings between First Nations and Municipal Councils in Ontario; and

    b) the Mayor BE REQUESTED to advocate via the Ontario Big City Mayors Caucus and the Association of Municipalities Ontario for changes to the Municipal Act, 2001 to better facilitate meetings between First Nations and Municipal Councils in Ontario.
